about

The tracks on this album were all written, performed and recorded by Rick Bernasconi, to the best of memory, between 1988 and 1993, whenever an idea for an original song came along. They were recorded with a Yamaha MT120 4 track multitrack cassette tape deck, with a Yamaha RX11 drum machine playing a single pattern in each song. Many of the songs are comprised of bounced tracks with rhythm guitar(s) and drum machine mixes, a few with bass and drum machine. Some vocal tracks were also bounced mixes with harmonies and, in several cases, bleed-over of the monitored basic tracks to a major or minor degree. These bounced mixes were in stereo, more or less, since each song took a different approach. Most of the tracks were recorded with plenty of reverb. Some of the tracks had dropouts and/or signal degradation and loss due to the tape medium, whether by accident or age, and presented some challenges to the final mixes, which are proudly presented in this album, warts and all.

Rick came of age in San Francisco, when all of the seminal players were "making the scene". They had a huge influence on his own playing style, which you can still hear today, playing with his longtime band Black Slax. ... more
